"Fun with Feathers" on March 3

The Lewes Historical Society is offering programs geared for kids Kindergarten through 2nd grade, while school is out on March 3rd.

Visit the Cannonball House Maritime Museum at 118 Front Street in Lewes for children's story time, engaging learning opportunities, and history-themed crafts, all scheduled at two sessions per day: a morning session from 10:00am-11:00am and an afternoon session from 1:00pm-2:00pm. These programs are free for children and only a suggested donation of $5 per adult.  Space is limited; call for reservations (302) 645-7670.

Lunch & Learn: “The History of Saint Georges AME Church"

The next Lewes Lunch & Learn program will be held on Friday, February 17, at noon at Saint Georges AME Church at 317 Park Avenue in Lewes.  This is an alternative location for the Lunch & Learn program; they are otherwise held at Hotel Rodney.  Reverend Deborah McCaffity will present, “The History of Saint Georges AME Church".

Register for 2017 Family Boat Building Weekend

Join The Lewes Historical Society as we rekindle the Lewes tradition of boat building as part of our 2017 Family Boat Building Weekend. Held over the course of Fathers Day Weekend (June 16-18), you and your family have the chance to build your own 12’ Bevin’s Skiff and test your craftsmanship as we launch the boats in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal on Sunday afternoon.

Enjoy the “Sweet” and the “Salvaged” on February 11th

Come by Midway School #178 for a sweet treat at The Lewes Historical Society Campus at 110 Shipcarpenter Street between 10:00am-4:00pm on February 11th. Enjoy free historic chocolate-making demonstrations and samples given by a team of Lewes Historical Society volunteer living history interpreters in period garb.

Lewes History Museum Making Strides in 2017

The Lewes History Museum campaign has passed the $1 million mark and the project is on-track for a ribbon cutting by July, officials from The Lewes Historical Society say.

The Museum will be the primary tenant within the new Margaret H. Rollins Community Center, taking 12,500 sf of the 14,000 sf facility.  “Proposed renovations and new construction plans were approved last week by Lewes City Council, paving the way for work to begin at once,” said Mark Chura, project manager.

2017 Members Annual Meeting

Members are invited to The Lewes Historical Society's Annual Meeting on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 10:30am, in the large meeting room at the new Lewes Public Library at 111 Adams Avenue.  Dick Carter, Chair of the Delaware Heritage Commission, will offer comments.  Enjoy refreshments, elect trustees, review the Society's 2016 activities, tour the new Lewes History Museum at the Margaret H. Rollins Community Center, and see where we hope 2017 leads us. No reservations are required.

Speaker Series: "History Of The Lewes Fire Department"

Join speaker Bob Ruddick for a discussion about the history of the Lewes Fire Department, on Friday, January 20, at 7:30pm at the Lewes Public Library at 111 Adams Avenue, Lewes, Delaware 19958.  Admission is free and no reservations are required. For more information, call 302-645-7670.
