Endowment & Planned Giving
The long-term sustainability of Historic Lewes depends on endowment gifts from generous supporters who value the preservation of the rich history of our region. These legacy gifts ensure that we have the means to restore, maintain, and enhance the treasures Historic Lewes has amassed over the years. In addition to supporting our ongoing operation, they also help in the development of expanded outreach to the community through educational programs, exhibits, and scholarship.
We welcome the opportunity to help you explore ways to support the Historic Lewes’ endowment. Together, we can answer your specific questions, review the tax and income benefits of living and testamentary gifting, and review estate planning techniques to benefit both your heirs and Historic Lewes.
Informative seminars with financial and legal experts are offered occasionally to our members. We are always striving to develop programs responding to our members’ interests and needs. We offer special seminars throughout the year on basic and advanced estate planning, techniques to reduce estate taxes, and retirement planning. These seminars are free, members-only events featuring presentations by experts in the field of estate planning and tax and financial planners. Topics include the basics of wills, trusts, and the steps an executor and family must go through when a person dies, including ways to minimize this process; an overview of the federal and Delaware estate tax rules; adding income for life while obtaining a tax deduction; how you can reduce your taxes; charitable planning strategies and techniques; trusts and how they and foundations can be used to your advantage; business succession planning; and personal financial management.
As stewards of our region’s incredibly rich past and advocates of sharing it with generations to come, we sincerely hope that you will consider supporting the endowment of Historic Lewes.
