The Society has been nationally recognized for its contributions to historic preservation and history research, and is visited each year by people from all over Delaware and the United States. Volunteering at the Society is a fantastic way to find out more about our historic town and to meet people who share a passion for Lewes and its history.

“The Lewes Historical Society is one of the most active local historical organizations in the nation. The reason is volunteers. As a member of the LHS Journal's editorial board, a member of the Wooden Boat Program and whatever else comes along, it gives me great satisfaction to share elements of Lewes's rich history with others and to play a small part in the Society's role in the community.”

“I grew up in Lewes and have spent all but 12 years here. I have always given credit to the Historical Society for keeping the history alive and making it a very special place to visit and live. I volunteer at the Ryves Holt House and in the office and have truly enjoyed all the members and visitors in Lewes.”
