Going back to the 17th century and beyond, the Delaware coast is a graveyard for over 2,000 ships that never made it to Lewes’ safe harbor.  They were lost to storms, accidents, incompetence, and even acts of war.  In this premier, one-hour program, walk the very beaches that were witness to horrific disaster and incredible life-saving heroics as these tales are brought to life by lively storytellers from Historic Lewes and Delaware State Parks.
This tour is proudly offered in partnership with our friends and colleagues at Cape Henlopen State Park, whose Atlantic shore beaches overlook the sites of many of the stories you will hear during your tour experience.  The tour begins at the Point Comfort Station Parking Lot, located within the State Park at 37432 Post Road, Lewes, DE 19958. Participants not holding an annual pass must pay park entry fees when those fees are in effect.
Tour Groups of 15 people will depart the starting location every fifteen minutes between 6:00 and 7 p.m.  SPACE IS LIMITEDWe recommend arriving at least ten minutes prior to your scheduled launch time to check in.  The tour’s duration is approximately one (1) hour.
Guests are advised that this tour requires standing and walking along the beach for its duration, beginning at the appointed time and moving from station to station.  A mobility aid is available on a first-come, first-served basis if requested in advance.  Please plan to wear comfortable shoes for movement across the sands of Cape Henlopen.
Tickets are $35 per person and are non-refundable. Tours canceled in the case of inclement weather may not be rescheduled but will be refunded by the Lewes Historical Society.
