About LHS Antique Shop
The historic "Z-Club" building is home to the wonderful and ever-changing Lewes Historical Society Antique Shop. The shop is a new fund-raising endeavor opened by the Society in September 2021. Items offered for sale are vetted objects donated to the Society for the specific purpose of resale and are independent of museum and archive-focused areas of collecting. All profits are directed to the ongoing restoration of LHS Collections and Properties.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the LHS Antique Shop, please call 302.645.7670.
HISTORY of the Z-Club:
In October 1898 the Sussex Trust Title & Safe Deposit Company opened its doors following its $5,000 construction. It operated as a two-man bank until 1903 when a clerk was hired for $5.00 per week.
On May 9, 1919, the Mustard family purchased the building, which was recorded in Deed Book 213 page 540. It is said that during this period the building was rented to Mr. John Henry Riley who sold “millinery and notions”. The building was also a meeting place for Girl Scouts and religious organizations, and also operated as a visitor center.
In 1929 Mrs. Mustard sold the building to the Zwaanendael Women’s Club for $1.00. The building was used as their meeting place for over 80 years until they sold it to the Lewes Historical Society in 2016 for the sum of $1.00.
