Walking Tour - Introduction to Lewes: A Maritime Destination
The Lewes Historical Society celebrates over 50 years of embracing Lewes’ history by offering multiple tour options to the public. Discover historic destinations downtown, learn intriguing facts about our region’s maritime history, and experience history as it comes alive. Find out about our lighthouses, cemeteries, historic architecture, maritime monuments, and more.
Journey through Lewes’ salty past while learning about the explorers who first put the town on the map. Find out which pirates sailed the local waters, and hear about the brave United States Life-Saving Servicemen who rescued victims from perilous shipwrecks. This 60-minute walking tour includes a visit to the 1884 US Life Saving Station building.

Please note: Tours often sell out quickly. Pre-registration is required for all tours and closes 30 minutes prior to the start time. Unfortunately, at this time, we can not take "walk-ons", due to COVID-19 restrictions. Thank you for helping us comply with DE mandates and keep our volunteers and visitors safe.
The Lewes Historical Society is committed to the safety of our visitors, volunteers, and staff. All walking tour reservations are limited to the maximum number of allowed individuals, practicing social distancing as mandated by Delaware Health and Social Services (DHSS). All participants are required to wear a face-covering for the duration of their tour. Each attendee must maintain a social distance of six (6) feet between individuals of different households. We appreciate your compliance with the health and comfort of our guides and your fellow patrons.
