The Lewes Historical Society invites those interested in volunteering, along with its current volunteers, to a Volunteer Open House on Wednesday, May 27, from 5:00-6:00pm. An introductory walking tour will be offered, beginning at the Cannonball House Maritime Museum (on the corner of Front and Bank Streets in the historic district), continuing down Second Street past the Ryves Holt House Museum Gift Shop, and concluding with light refreshments at the “Historic Lewes, Delaware” exhibit in the Hiram Rodney Burton House on the Society’s Historic Campus.
The Lewes Historical Society is seeking volunteers interested in:
• Visitor Services volunteers are the Society’s front-line ambassadors interacting with visitors. These volunteers welcome, direct, and inform visitors in locations including the Ryves Holt House, the Cannonball House, and the Hiram Rodney Burton House.
• Docents act as a voice for the Society, sharing the history and culture of the area through fun and interesting tours including, the Historic Campus, the Maritime Tour, Cemetery Tours, Historic Trolley Rides.
All volunteers receive training, including shadowing current volunteers, in order to become familiar with content and delivery, gaining a deeper understanding of the nature of the position.
