Speaker Series: "History Of The Lewes Fire Department"

Join speaker Bob Ruddick for a discussion about the history of the Lewes Fire Department, on Friday, January 20, at 7:30pm at the Lewes Public Library at 111 Adams Avenue, Lewes, Delaware 19958.  Admission is free and no reservations are required. For more information, call 302-645-7670.

This program outlines the history of fire service in Delaware and early history of the Lewes Fire Department.  Highlights of major fires and storms through the years will be shown, and the audience will learn about how the department has grown and developed over time.  Fire prevention education is an important element of the Lewes Fire Department, with the annual fire prevention programs presented each year to the youth of the community. This program was developed by the department’s Community Outreach Committee.

Bob Ruddick joined the Lewes Fire Department as a member of the fire police unit in February 2011, following his retirement from Schneider National Trucking Company.  Bob has been active as a fire police officer, both in Lewes and at the county level, having just finished a term as President of the Sussex County Fire Police Association.  Bob serves as co-chair of the Fire Prevention Committee and is the chairman of the Community Outreach Committee.

This presentation is The Lewes Historical Society’s January Speaker Series. Each month between September and May the Society offers educational and entertaining programs that explore the history of Lewes, the surrounding area, Lewes's unique interaction in the national scene and other related and appealing topics. All of these meetings are open to all members, residents and visitors of the Lewes community.
