Lewes Historical Society Hosts Antiques Sale and Kids Activities during Tulip Celebration April 11

While visiting downtown Lewes during the Lewes Tulip Celebration, on April 11, the public is invited to The Lewes Historical Society Campus at 110 Shipcarpenter Street for an Antiques & Collectibles Sale and fun and educational kids activities: Sketching and Sweet Spring Sampling!

Antique-lovers looking for that special gem to add to their collection will love the Antiques & Collectibles Sale. Held on Saturday, April 11 from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Rabbit’s Ferry House, the sale will feature a selection of small furniture, dishware, linens, jewelry and more! Proceeds will benefit The Lewes Historical Society. The Rabbit’s Ferry House is at The Lewes Historical Society Campus.

Also on April 11 from 12:00pm-3:00pm, at the Burton-Ingram House at the Society’s Campus, children of all ages will have the opportunity to visit the parlor room of the home to learn about traveling painters and still life art.  With colored pencil or crayon in hand little learners will be asked to recreate the portrait view of the DeWolfe family and tulips within a historic vase also on display.  Young artists that wish can “donate” their finished artwork to the Society, which will be posted on the Society’s Facebook page.

The young artists will be offered a “taste of the past,” in the form of a sugar cookie and a molasses cookie, created by local bakery, Old World Breads.  On April 5, 1764, Lewes like many other coastal towns in the Colonies experienced a Tax on Sugar imposed on the Colonies by the British Crown.  Younger visitors will be asked to vote on which cookie they favor more. The votes will be tallied and displayed at HistoricLewes.org website posing the question: Would America still rebel today, as it did in the past, if sugar were taxed?”
