The Lewes Historical Society Research Fellowship
The Lewes Historical Society is proud to announce that we will be launching a Research Fellowship in the summer of 2023.
The fellowship provides $5,000 to support a scholar wishing to use the Society’s archives and library for a period of up to 3 months from June through August. The fellowship is open
to graduate students and advanced scholars who are conducting research that may benefit from the Society’s holdings while advancing the Society’s mission.
Recipients will be required to complete their fellowship research within a period of one year from the date of the award. Further, recipients will submit a two-to-three-page written
report of research findings and a 2,000 to a 3,000-word article to be published in Lewes History: The Journal of the Lewes Historical Society. Additionally, recipients will be
requested to submit copy of any subsequent publication (article, thesis, dissertation, or book) that may result outside of the Lewes Historical Society.
The Lewes Historical Society is specifically interested in proposals that focus on the diverse social and cultural heritage of Lewes, as well as marginalized peoples and bottom-up
The recipients for each of the fellowships will be chosen from a single round of applications. Applicants should submit the following:
● A curriculum vitae, including educational background, publications and
● A brief outline of the research proposed (not to exceed two pages). Strong
applications will specifically offer proposals that align with the Society’s strategic
plan and mission.
