Endowment Profile- In memory of Elizabeth “Betty” Carter

Spring Appeal

It's your support that keeps the Lewes Historical Society a premiere institution. The Lewes Historical Society will work with you and your advisors to design a plan that achieves your financial and philanthropic objectives. Gifts can be wonderfully simple, flexible and easy to make.

You may have received something in the mail about our spring appeal, but if not you can donate here: shop.historiclewes.org.

Born in New Jersey, Betty met her husband, Frank S. Carter, at the boardwalk in Rehoboth, married and moved to Lewes.  When the historical society started up in the 1960s, she quickly became engaged, helping as a docent, board member, chair of the Hiram Rodney Burton House, as a co-chair of the Christmas Tour of Lewes and with numerous other volunteer activities too numerous to mention.

The Carter family is steeped in Lewes history and Betty embraced Lewes and its history and traditions, helping the Society add its own in our historic town on Delaware Bay.  Betty’s family chose to honor her commitment to the Society by establishing a Memorial Fund with the Society’s Endowment.

Such Memorial Gifts are, by Board policy, placed in the Society’s Endowment and allowed to grow, so ensuring that Betty’s passion for Lewes is always remembered and can continue to give back forever.

Gifts to Memorial Funds established at the Society may be made at any time in memory of those named.
