"Maiden Plantation", Near Coolspring, Delaware
Sussex County Delaware Deed Book G No. 7 ( 1732-1743) Pgs 4 & 5. Deed. 10 Oct 1732. From Isaiah Harrison , of Broadkill Hd., Sussex Co. in the province of PA, yeoman, to his son , Thomas Harrison , of the same place, yeoman. For 5 shillings 250 acres of land. Land is situated about 8 miles from the town of Lewis. Land is part of a tract known as Maiden Plantation was originally laid out to William Darval of Kent Co of the province of PA. for 1000 acres by warrant from the Sussex Co. Court. William Darval conveyed to Jno Nelson , merchant , of Boston in New England on 2 Feb 1687. Jno Nelson by deed of gift made the land over to his son-in-law, Henry Loyd, Gent, of Queens Village in Queens County on the Island of Nassau in the province of NY on 16 Nov 1713.
Tract was resurveyed on 1 Jan 1717/18 by Jacob Taylor and found to contain 907 acres. The 907 acres are bounded by James Fisher's land and near Bright's Beaverdam. Henry Loyd, by deeds dated the 1st and 2nd of Jun 1723, conveyed all of the tract to Isaiah Harrison. Isaiah Harrison conveys 250 acres to his son, Thomas. The 250 acres are bounded by land of his brother, Daniel Harrison. Deed makes reference to a one year lease made the day before. Isaiah Harrison signs, Wits. Robt Smith and Robt Shankland. Ack. 7 Nov 1733.
Pages 155, 156 & 157 Deed 7 May 1736. From Isaiah Harrison, blacksmith of Sussex Co, Del., to Robert Frame, yeoman of the same place. For 39 pounds 134 acres plus 16 acres of land. Land is part of a larger tract situated near the head of Cold Spring Branch and was formerly surveyed to Wm Durvall for 1000 known as Maiden Plantation. This deed covers much of deed in Book G No. 7 pgs 4 & 5 but adds the Certificate of Survey was dated 1 Jan 1717. The 134 acres of land is bounded by Thomas Harrison's part and by William Pettijon's land. Also included is a small quantity of land, estimated to be 16 acres, lying at the bottom of the 134 acres and deemed to be the dividing line between the afsd tract of land & Wm Pettijon's land. Isaiah Harrison warrants the land except the 16 acres. Isaiah Harrison signs. Wits. Daniell Harrison, John Russell, Ack.
May Court 1736. Pages 277 & 278 Deed 14 Oct 1738. From Thomas Harrison, yeoman of Sussex Co, Del., to James Hood, yeoman of the same place. For 85 pounds, 250 acres of land. Land is situated about 8 miles from Lewes and is part of a larger tract of 907 acres of land known as Maiden Plantation. Land is bounded by land that formerly belonged to Daniel Harrison, late of Sussex Co Del., and now belonging to George Campbell of Sussex Co. Thomas Harrison makes his mark. Wits. Deed Book L No. 11 Pg 127. George Frame, Sussex Co., from Smith Frame, Worcester Co., Maryland, 6 Feb 1771. Whereas a tract in Broadkill Hundred whereof Robert Frame late of Sussex Co., died seized and Nathan Frame, eldest son of said Robert Fraim had the land divided and 30 acres was allotted afsd Smith Frame adjoining William Russel's land. For 6 pounds. Wit Wm. Peery, James Black. Within deed ackn 6 Feb 1771. Pg 51 Deed, Robert Wood Sussex Co. from William Frame Sussex Co and wife Elizabeth, 8 Feb 1775. Parcel in Broadkill Hundred whereof Robert Frame died intestate and his eldest son Nathan Frame referred a petition to the Orphans Court on 4 March 1766 to divide the land and a division was allotted to afsd. William Frame the youngest son of Robert Frame, his part, being part of a larger tract granted to William Derval called Maiden Plantation and handed down by conveyances from said William Derreval to the said Robert Frame beginning at a corner post of the land alloted to George Frame . . . 248 acres for 200 pounds. SCLR Deed Book M No. 12 Pg 1. Sacker Wyatt, Sussex Co from Smith Frame, Sussex Co. 20 Feb 1775. A parcel in Broadkill Hundred lately the property of Robert Frame of Sussex co., who died intestate whose eldest son Nathan Frame petitioned to divide the land and a parcel of 30 acres was laid off to Smith Frame son of afsd. Robert Frame on the east end of the said tract and adjoining lands of William Russel, part of which Smith Frame sold to George Frame and the remaining part to be conveyed by this deed, 17 1/4 acres. Wits. William Peery, Samuel Paynter. Within deed of sale ackn 25 Feb 1775. Pg 207 Robert Hood from Mary Hood, Sussex Co. widow of James Hood, yeoman, Magdalin McKnett of Kent Co Delaware, widow Elizabeth Black of Sussex Co. widow, William Peery, Sussex Co., gentleman, and his wife Mary (late Mary Hood) which said Magdalin, Elizabeth, and Mary were daughters of said James Hood. Whereas James Hood was possessed of a parcel in Broadkill Hundred containing 250 acres, part of a larger tract 907 acres called Maiden Plantation and by deed of indenture dated 14 Oct 1738 was conveyed from Thomas Harrisson to said James Hood (Book G, No. 6, pg 277). For 185 pounds. Wits. Robert Shankland, Robert Stevenson, within Deed ackn. 10 June 1776.
SCLR Deed Book G, No. 7 (1732-1743) Pgs 165 & 166 Deed 4 Aug 1736, from Benedictus Townsend and his wife, Lucilla, and Mary Light, all of Sussex Co. Del., to John Light, yeoman of the same place, son of William Light. For 3 pounds 300 acres of land. Land is situated on the west side of Delaware Bay and on the east and west side of a branch called the Beaverdam Branch. Ò Whereas William Light late of the County of Sussex aforesd decÕd ( father unto the above named Lucilla & Mary ) dyed intestate leaving behind a certain plantation or parcel of land... Land is bounded by Beaverdam Branch and by land formerly surveyed for William Darvall. Benedictus Townsend, Lucilla Townsend, and Mary Light sell all their right and title to the land to John Light. Benedict Townsend signs. Lucilla Townsend makes her mark. Mary Light makes her mark. Wits., Wm Pettijohn makes his mark, John Russell. Lucilla Townsend relinqueshes her dower rights. Ack Aug Court 1736.
SCLR Deed Book H No. 8 (1742-1753) Pgs 294 & 295 Deed. 12 Mar 1750. From William Russel, carpenter of Sussex Co., Del., to Marnix Virden, farmer of the same place. For 33 pounds, 105 acres of land. Land is situated in Lewes & Rehoboth Hundred and contains 135 acres, being part of a larger tract containing 500 acres which was taken up and patented by Roger Gum, which 105 acres if not yet laid off and surveyed but is to be laid off on the north side of the land whereon William Russell now lives. Synopsis of the title: William Penn, Esqr., by his patent granted the 500 acres to Roger Gum who sold the 500 acres to John Fisher and Thomas Fisher and John Fisher heirs of the afsd John Fisher by their deed of gift conveyed the land to Sarah Fisher who married William Spencer who sold the land to Willaim Pettyjohn who sold on 4 Aug 1748 255 acres to Willaim Russell. William Russell signs. Wits. Samuel Davis, John Rodeney. Ack 12 Mar 1750.
SCLR Deed Book I Pg 416 4 Nov 1762 Deed. James Black of Suss Co corwinder & Elizabeth his wife for 17 pounds sold to Robert Hood of same Co cordwinder... 22 3/4 a. which is 1/5 pt/o a 200 a tr of land 8 mi from Lewes Town which is pt/o a 907 a tr called Maden Plantation adj. land that was Daniel Harrison's late of this co dec'd & conveyed by him to George Campble of same co dec'd and now in possession of Absolum Hutson... 250 acres was conveyed by Thomas Harrison to James Hood of same co & 50 a of which was conveyed by said James Hood to Robert Fraim and at the decease of James Hood the remaining 200 a fell to the heirs of the said James Hood, whereas 1/5 pt/o the 200 a became the right of the afsd Elizabeth Black it being 22 3/4 a. Wits James Coulter, Thomas Gray. Elizabeth was examined by Thos Prettyman justice. Ackn 4 Nov 1762.
SCLR Deed Book K ( 1763-1769) Pg 232 7 May 1766, Deed of Partition. Nathan Frame eldest son of Robert Frame late of Suss Co dec'd exhibited a petition to a Orphans Court held 4 Mar 1766 setting forth that the Afsd Robert Frame died intestate and at the time of his death being possessed of several tracts of land leaving several children who became heirs to the dec'd, the court upon mature deliveration appoints Benjamin Burton & Thomas Robinson esqrs, Burton Waples, Josias Martin and William Prettyman gent to go to the lands with the surveyor & divide the same, we went on the lands with the surveyor and have ordered the surveyor to make division, first we assigned unto Nathan Frame eldest son of the afsd Robert dec'd 2 shares 183 a in the Sawmill Tr including the mill and one of the dwelling house, secondly we have allotted unto Mary Frame dau of the afsd Robert dec'd 164 a at the S end of the dwelling house, thirdly we have alloted unto Smith Frame son of the afsd Robert dec'd 110 a the residue of the Sawmill Tr and also 30 a in the other tr at Hoods adj. William Russel, W side of Mary Frame, fourthly we have allotted unto George Frame son of the afsd Robert dec'd 146 a. in that tr adj Hood through the tr of the afsd George, fifthly we have allotted unto William Frame son of afsd Robert dec'd 204 1/2 ac adj side of his brother George's part [ Plots shown ].

Charles Bright now of Marshahope Kent Co. planter for 18 pounds 10 shillings sold to William Ary of Suss Co... pt/o a tr of land whereas 1 Jan 1682 there was granted unto William Trippit by Suss Co Court a warrant to take up 300 a of land and was on 2 Feb 1682/83 assigned over by the said Trippit unto John Hill late of this Co., and John Hill on 11 Jan 1689/90 did assign over all his right unto the warrant unto Charles Bright afsd and on 10 April 1697 there was surveyed unto Charles Bright by virtue of the warrant a 300 a tr of land E & W sides of Beaverdam Br by Thomas Pemberton then deputy surveyor adj land of one William Durvall and William Light's 90 a... 202 a. Maiden Plantation in Brief
Maiden Plantation was located in Broadkill Hundred, Sussex County, Del., about eight miles from the town of Lewes. Maiden Plantation was originally laid out to William Darval of Kent County of the province of Penna. for 1000 acres by warrant of the Sussex County Court. William Darval conveyed to Jno Nelson, merchant, of Boston in New England on 2 Feb 1687. Jno Nelson by deed of gift made the land over to his son-in-law Henry Loyd, gent, of Queens Village in Queens County on the Island of Nassau in the province of NY on 16 Nov 1713. The tract was surveyed in 1717/18 and found to contain 907 acres. The 907 acres were bounded by James Fisher's land and near Bright's Beaverdam. In May 1736 Isaiah Harrison, blacksmith, of Sussex County, Del., conveyed to Robert Frame, yeoman of the same place 134 acres plus 16 acres. The 16 acres were in dispute and not warranted. The land was part of a larger tract situated near the head of Cold Spring

This examination of SCLR would appear to place the Maiden Plantation tract between Cold Spring Branch and the Broadkill Creek and E of Beaverdam Br., all in Broadkill Hundred, Sussex County Del. This is not an exhaustive search; however, various other deed records are included for reference.
