ALCIR is an open collection with constant growth expected. ALCIR is a special project of The Lewes Historical Society to ensure that information of historical import and interest concerning local and area commercial, industrial and religious institutions will be available for future research. ALCIR is a documentation strategy aimed at housing and/or recording collections relating to Lewes commercial, industrial and religious endeavors since the Dutch West India Company established a whaling outpost at present-day Lewes in 1624.

The Lewes Historical Society takes a proactive position in locating these resources, inquiring about their status, advocating for their continued preservation - either at their current location or at the Society - and ensuring a regularly updated catalog of Lewes documentary materials can be presented and used by researchers and interested individuals.
