Scope & Content Notes

The collection is comprised of notes, pedigrees, diplomas, correspondence, clippings, journals, and photographs that document the Beebe Family. Pedigrees are described in general. Particular attention is given to the local members of the Beebe family, especially Richard and James, the founders of Beebe Hospital and their father Richard Beebe, Sr.; attention is also called towards Ichabod Beebe (c. 1800), Richard Beebe, Sr.’s, grandfather, who was a river & bay pilot who possible lived in Philadelphia but who owned land in Lewes on Front Street in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Appraisal & Arrangement Notes

Appraisal and arrangement were conducted in September 2002 through July 2003. Most newspaper clippings were trimmed and copied onto acid free paper because of aging concerns and with the originals being subsequently discarded. No other primary materials were discarded.

Capital letters in folder descriptions reflect Mrs. Frazer’s folder titles. Mrs. Frazer’s original order has been respected except for miscellaneous materials received after the initial transfer that clearly had no perceivable order, that material has been added throughout the collection in places where their insertion was logical.
