Lewes' 375th Anniversary!
Learn to Navigate by the Stars Sept. 12 on Lewes Beach

Lewes Historical Society member Wayne Kirklin – pictured in front of the Delaware Breakwater – will be presenting Navigating by the Stars Sept. 12 at 7:30 on Lewes Beach.
With GPS, radars and cell phones, it is hard for many today to believe there was a time when crossing the seas depended on knowledge of stars and heavenly bodies. On September 12 at 7:30 on Lewes Beach at the foot of Savannah Road, Society member and sailing enthusiast Wayne Kirklin will be explaining the history of navigation and will demonstrate how sextants are used, which stars need to be looked for and how much fun navigating can be! The program is free and open to the public. Navigating by the Stars is suitable for all ages. The Lewes Historical Society is a non-profit, member-based, educational organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the heritage of Delaware’s oldest town. The Society maintains twelve historic properties in Lewes, a research archive and hosts many programs and events year-round.
