Lewes Historical Society to Host Oral History Workshop March 8
On March 8, 2007 at 10:00 am the Society will be holding a workshop for all those interested in conducting oral histories and those who are interested in volunteering with the project through the Society. Space is limited to the first 20 registrants. There is no fee for the workshop. Paul Bauernschmidt of the Delaware Heritage Commission will be teaching the workshop which will be held at Midway School #178 at The Lewes Historical Society's Historic Complex at Second and Shipcarpenter Streets. Paul will review the development of oral history techniques, the proper manner in which to conduct an interview and the potential uses of oral histories in teaching history. The Society recently received a $1,000 from Sussex County Council for the purchase of a professional digital recorder, microphones, and editing software. By recording directly into a digital format, the Society will be able to utilize computer editing software, saving valuable time in creating transcriptions. These transcriptions as well as the orginal recordings will be available at the Society's library and its website, www.historiclewes.org. Do you know someone whose stories should be captured for future generations? Please contact the Society so we may add their name to our list of those we hope to interview. If you are interested in attending the workshop or would like to nominate someone to be interviewed, please contact the Society at 302-645-7670 or at leah@historiclewes.org.
