Lewes, Del. -- The Fourth Annual Society Fine Art Show & Sale is slated for February 16-18 to benefit The Lewes Historical Society. Again at the beautiful Children’s Beach House (Cedar Street, Lewes Beach) this year’s show will afford visitors plenty of space for meeting artists, talking with them about their works and reviewing the wonderful range of styles and subjects of paintings. Tickets for the Friday evening Preview Party, 6-8 pm, February 16, featuring heavy hors d’ouerves and wine are $25 or $30 at the door and are available at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce on Kings Highway, Stepping Stone on Market Street and Lewes Gourmet at its new location on Front Street. Tickets may be ordered over the phone by calling The Lewes Historical Society at 302-645-7670. Tickets purchased for Friday evening Preview are good for admission on both Saturday and Sunday. General admission over the weekend is $5 per day. According to Society Fine Art Show & Sale Chairman and exhibing artist Steve Rogers, “the show is attracting an increasing number of artists and visitors -- this year we have a record 40 artists. The Children’s Beach House is a perfect venue for both artists and visitors to come and experience great art.” Julie Baxendell of Primehook is this year's featured artist. Julie has been concentrating on acrylics over the last three years. Her technique first sees a complete drawing in conté crayon on the gessoed canvas or watercolor paper, then painted over in layered acrylics made transparent by a slow-dry blending fluid. Through this process she is seeking "to create a certain tension between the sketchy quality of the line and the fluid brush strokes of the paint." Baxendell states, "In my latest series, I tried to capture my personal reactions to the Isle of Skye in Scotland by using strongly colored underpaintings and directional strokes of paint on the surface. I love the stark, raw dramatic beauty on the island. The sheer size of the mountains and the vastness of the open space are utterly impressive, and the skies always seemed to be threatening in some way, which adds to the drama of the landscape." Besides Baxendell, thirty-nine other regional artists including M. Joyce Zeigler, Nick Serratore, Jean Doran, Anne Hanna, Jim Connolly, Jack Wiberg, Barbara Strawser, Aubre Duncan, June Wright, Andrew Criss, Kathy Buschi, Pat Staby, Anita Peghini-Raber, Elisabeth Bard, Pam Bounds, Howard J. Eberle, Vicor Letonoff, Julie Baxendell, Betsy Von Dreele, Kim Donald, Stephanie Nadolski, Mark Cottman, Barbara Deitrick, Breck Stringer, Jo Houtz, Michelle Green, Steve Rogers, Faith Lord, Ramona Maziarz, Dawn Walker, Andy Smith, Laura Hickman, Stephen Billups, Kevin Spence, Grover Cantwell, Hugh Thornton and John Schisler will also appear.
