Lewes' 375th Anniversary!
Fine Art Show to Benefit Lewes Historical Society Set for Feb. 17-19 at New Location

Laura Hickman, the 2006 featured artist at the Society's Fine Art Show & Sale, stands with one of her recent pastels entitled "Tangier Island," in her Bethany Beach studio.
The Third Annual Society Fine Art Show & Sale is slated for February 17-19 to benefit The Lewes Historical Society. At a new home this year at the Children's Beach House (Cedar Street, Lewes Beach) this year's show will afford visitors plenty of space for meeting artists, talking with them about their works and reviewing the wonderful range of styles and subjects of paintings.

Tickets for the Friday evening Preview Party, 6-8 pm, February 17, featuring heavy hors d'ouerves and wine are $25 and are available at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce on Kings Highway, Lewes Gourmet and the Stepping Stone, both on Market Street at Front Street. Tickets may be ordered over the phone by calling The Lewes Historical Society at 302-645-7670 or by visiting www.historiclewes.org. Tickets purchased for Friday evening Preview are good for admission on both Saturday and Sunday. General admission over the weekend is $3 per day.

According to Society Fine Art Show & Sale Chairman and exhibing artist Steve Rogers, a move from the historical society's Historic Complex was necessary for the growth of the show. "The show is attracting an increasing number of artists and visitors and for it to continue to grow, it needed a new venue. The Children's Beach House is a perfect venue for both artists and visitors to come and experience art."

This year's featured artist, Laura Hickman, will be exhibiting at the show for the first time. Hickman's art has been described as representational landscapes and architectural landscapes. Using soft pastels on a black surface to draw out the vibrancy and intensity of her color palette, Hickman takes pleasure in looking at ordinary objects in extraordinary light. "The light in the morning is different from the light in the afternoon and can shape the way your eye perceives something, even something as everyday as the corner of a house," Hickman remarked. She draws inspriration from the Delmarva peninsula, particularly her native Bethany Beach.

Thirty other regional artists including Kim Klabe, Jay Friedlander, Nick Serratore, faith Lord, Catherine Colsher, Jean Doran, Andrew Criss, Michelle Green, Andy Smith, John Wehmiller, Rita Trimmer, Kathi Buschi, Kim Donald, Helga van Emmerick Finn, Jo Houtz, Ramona Maziarz, Julie Molyneux, Pam Bounds, John Schisler, Breck Stringer, Jack Wiberg, June Wright, Steve Rogers, Barbara Dietrich, Ellen Rice, Elizabeth Bard, Anne Hanna, Joan Zylkin, Betsy Von Dreele, Dawn Walker and Marc Cottman will also appear.
