Lewes' 375th Anniversary!
31st Annual Christmas Tour of Lewes Set for December 4

While the days are getting shorter, everyone’s attention seems to be turning towards the holidays and it is no exception at the Society. Committee Coordinators Hope Tyler and Carolyn Marshall and Advisor Betty Carter have put together a tour of seven wonderful homes in the Lewes’ historic district including the recently restored early 20th century home at the corner of Kings Highway and Franklin Avenue. The home was recently the focus of a feature article in Delaware Beach Life magazine as well as a feature story in The Cape Gazette. The Tour is December 4 from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

Private homes on the Tour also include stops on Pilottown Road, Park Avenue, Shipcarpenter Square, Second Street and Washington Avenue.

Traditional favorites will return this year including the Antiques & Collectibles Sale run by Carol Orr - if you have pieces - especially furnishings - for donation, please call Carol at 645-8520. Proceeds from the Antiques & Collectibles Sale will be put towards implementing museum-quality heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in the Rabbit’s Ferry House. Also, our Greens Sale will be held once again on the pleasant confines of the Historic Complex from 10:00 until supplies run out. If you have holly, pine or magnolia trees that need trimming please call the Society offices at 645-7670 to donate material for the sale.

For the second consecutive year, a Gingerbread Festival for children will be held at the Society in Midway School #178 and a story hour for children will be held at the Ryves Holt House. Please contact the Lewes Chamber of Commerce for more details at 645-8073.

Tickets may be ordered by sending in the form on the inside back cover or calling the Society offices between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Presale tickets are $12.00. The Society accepts MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express. Orders received prior to Thanksgiving will be mailed to you and those received after will be held at the Ellegood Museum Shop.

Beginning in mid-November, tickets may be purchased directly at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, the Zwaanendael Museum, Habersham Peddler’s and Trader’s in Lewes, in Rehoboth Beach at Browseabout Books and in Fenwick Island at Seaport Antiques. Tickets may be purchased the day of the tour at each of the above locations and also at the Ellegood House Museum Shop; event day tickets are $15.00. Please keep in mind that the Christmas Tour of Lewes is a rain, snow or shine event and that your support of the Society is greatly appreciated! For more information about the Christmas Tour of Lewes, please call Hope Tyler at 645-7572.
