LHS Celebrates Black History Month with Underground Railroad Presentation
Willis Phelps, a first person interpretor from Wilmington, will join The Lewes Historical Society at its February 20 meeting at 7:30 PM at St. Peter's Church Hall, Second and Mulberry Streets for a stirring interpretation of life on Delaware’s Underground Railroad. The title of Phelps's program is the Trackless Train. Phelps will portray Harry Graige, an ordinary man in Wilmington, Del. who risked his own life to help slaves find freedom. Phelps last visited the Lewes Historical Society in 2002 when he gave a first person interpretation of a buffalo soldier durign the Civil War. The meeting is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served following the meeting. The Lewes Historical Society is a non-profit membership-based organization that was founded in 1962 to preserve and share Lewes's rich heritage.
