Lewes' 375th Anniversary!
LHS Celebrates 40th Annual Antique Show August 2nd

Mary Rawl, from Auntie M's Emporium in Lewes, will be displaying at the 40th Annual Antique Show at the Lewes Historical Society on August 2.
The Lewes Historical Society is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of its Antique Show this August 2 at the Historic Complex at the corner of Second and Shipcarpenter Streetsin beautiful downtown Lewes. The show is begins at 9 AM and lasts until 5 PM, admission is $2.00. Nearly 65 high quality dealers participate in the show that features 18th century to early 20th century antiques. All pieces are authentic and represent a wide range of prices. There is something for every taste and every level of collecting sophistication at the show.

Dealers who will be at the show represent a wide variety of interests including oriental rugs, Sandwich glass and other glassware, antique musical instruments and phonographs, colonial and Victorian furnishings as well as other fine period pieces, oyster plates and other regional china as well as antiquarian books and antique jewelry. Several dealers specialize in early twentieth century collectibles. "It is very easy to find something for your home or beach cottage at this show," said frequent attendee Richard Dexter who has been visiting the show for over twenty years.

In addition to wonderful dealers, the Society also hosts a plant-sale table where plants and small trees mat be purchased. The ambiance of the outdoor show, inside the shady grove of mature oaks, magnolias, hollies and cypress and surrounded by nine of the historical society's twelve historic house museums adds to the experience. The beautiful grounds where the show is held have been featured in publications such as Home & Garden, Colonial Living and the television show Good Morning America.

The Lewes Historical Society also sponsors a food booth where ice cold drinks, baked goods, deviled eggs, ice cream, and traditional favorites such as hot dogs and chips are served. All proceeds benefit the Society and are used in educational and preservation programming.

"This antique show is a Lewes institution. Many families plan their vacation time at the beach around this event. Many dealers and visitors comment that they enjoy the traditional feel of the event as well as the ambiance of an outdoor show in such a beautiful setting," historical society Executive Director Michael DiPaolo said.

The Lewes Historical Society is a private, charitable organization founded in 1962 and has restored 12 historic Lewes homes. The Society is a vibrant member-based organization with continuing activities and projects.
