Lewes' 375th Anniversary!
Historical Society Craft Fair Features Scores of Craftspeople, Music in Historic setting

The fall Lewes Historical Society Craft Fair on Saturday, October 5 will continue its tradition of bringing together popular East Coast artist/craftsmen to the Lewes Historical Complex, Third and Shipcarpenter Streets in Lewes. The more than 80 artisans registered for the juried Craft Fair bring a wide range of crafts to the show from woodworkers to printed women's apparel, from creative hand-made cards and stationery to Victorian wreaths and bouquets.

Craft Fair chairman, Carolyn Lester said that the show which runs from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. "continues to attract a wide range of professional craftspeople. They include many new artisans as well as locals and folks who have made Lewes an important stop on the craft show circuit." She said that a new attraction to the event will be live music performances by Bitter Creek. "This popular bluegrass group from Easton, Maryland has played at the Rehoboth Art League outdoor show and at other local venues. We think that the addition of this contemporary group will give the Craft Fair a new dimension while at the same time we hope to start a new tradition for the Craft Fair."

Lester said that among the new artisans exhibiting their work are Pottstown, Pa. stoneware garden sculptor Joanne Pomerantz, Evelyn Abel from Manassas, Va., who makes one-of-a-kind hand-painted stem ware, vases and pitchers and Ann Cheers from Stevensville, Md. who makes pottery tiles and whimsical clay animals. Other crafts are holiday gifts, quilts, collages, jewelry, soap, tapestry bags, painted furniture, stained glass and dolls.

Assisting with the event are Bob and Marie Adams,Chris Besche, Steve Rogers and Lou Braithwaite and many other volunteers. Refreshments, sandwiches and baked items will be available throughout the day. Admission for the show is $2. Rain date is Sunday, October 6.
