Community Service & Volunteer Opportunities

Many students in middle school and high school today are required to perform community service in order to graduate. There's no better place for a Cape Henlopen High School student to volunteer than at the Lewes Historical Society. Not only will the student meet his or her requirement, but the student at the same time will have the opportunity to learn about the community that he or she lives in. There is nothing better than understanding a little bit better about where you live and learning that there is much to be proud of when you call Lewes and the Cape Henlopen region home.

Year-round opportunities available include:

Archives & Library Assistant: Assist the curator with archival projects including preservation photocopying, inventorying collections, digitization projects and some small-scale research projects. Flexible hours and Training provided

Summer Docent: Help staff the historic houses of Lewes and provide museum interpretation for summer visitors. Flexible hours and training provided.

Grounds Crew Volunteer: Help maintain the nationally-recognized Historic Complex by volunteering for the grounds crew. Duties include some landscaping, painting and general clean up. Flexible Hours.

Summer Festival Helper: Help at the Society's Antique Shows, Craft Fairs and other special event by working at the ticket booth, food booth and other duties as needed. Flexible hours and training provided.

Any student interested in volunteering or performing community service requirements at the Lewes Historical Society can call at 302-645-7670 or email the Society at info@historiclewes.org.
