With a history dating back to 1609, the Lewes area is rich in history and has many church and family cemeteries, some of which are well known and some of which are poorly documented or unknown. During this project, the intern will be on-site in burial yards, documenting each stone and entering each into a database. Each stone will be digitally photographed and included in the database. No excavation will conducted. Ultimately, this research and inventory will be published by The Lewes Historical Society. Research in eighteenth and nineteenth century funerary art, some genealogical work, and some church history research will also be carried out by the intern. At the end of the summer, the intern will present a paper to the Executive Director detailing his or her experience and research.
There is a $3,000.00 stipend for the summer and the Society will ensure living arrangements for the intern in Lewes. The Lewes Historical Society is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate in regard to age, sex, race, creed, national origin, disability, handicap, sexual orientation, or political affiliation.
