Internships at The Lewes Historical Society

Students use the collections at the Society for many purposes. Here, one examines a portion of our Lincoln collection.
  • Archives Internship Application

The Archives of The Lewes Historical Society contains nearly 200 linear feet of papers and other documentation that provides research opportunities into the history of Lewes, founded in 1631. The Society also maintains nearly 50,000 photographic images of Lewes. Our Library contains close to 4,000 volumes on Delaware history, maritime history, and fine and decorative arts. The Society's library and archives are consistently utilized by all types of researchers -- from high school students to professional historians.

Interns in the Archives of the Lewes Historical Society will have an opportunity to work with original documentation, create finding aids, learn basic principles of archival processing and reference work. At this time a stipend is not offered with this internship but housing in Lewes can be provided if it is needed. This internship is offered during the summer, can be scheduled around your college or university's academic schedule and may count as credit towards your degree. All undergraduates currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university are eligible to apply but the Society will be looking specifically for those students with a major course of study in history or library science.
